IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol)

Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) is an Internet standard code of conduct used by e-mail clients to recover messages from a email server over a TCP/IP connection. As per this IMAP settings e-mail is received and held for you by your Internet server. This enables you to view the heading and the sender of the letter and then decide whether to download the mail.
